You Want To Travel With Her

I've met Suzanne. Did I mention that before?

I see her a lot at GrassRoots. She gives everybody she knows a hug when she sees them again, and she's pretty good at chess. Her name is Michelle.

So You Want To Be Chic?

Simply follow these easy-to-remember steps:

1. You can be anti-Globalisation by owning a cellphone or a website.
2. Fight for animal rights by wearing Birkenstocks.
3. Hide your anti-Government views behind Environmentalism.
4. Denounce public education while you go to university, with tuition paid by your student loan.
5. Empathize with the homeless when your rent is paid by your parents.
6. Ban genetically-modified foods ... except for Tofu, which you need, because you are a vegan this week.
7. Jump on any bandwagon that seems cool at the time, even if you have absolutely no idea what it's about.

Together we can fight Democracy by endorsing Hypocracy.

Suzanne

Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river
You can hear the boats go by
You can spend the night beside her
And you know that she's half crazy
But that's why you want to be there
And she feeds you tea and oranges
That come all the way from China
And just when you mean to tell her
That you have no love to give her
Then she gets you on her wavelength
And she lets the river answer
That you've always been her lover

And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that she will trust you
For you've touched her perfect body with your mind

And Jesus was a sailor
When he walked upon the water
And he spent a long time watching
From his lonely wooden tower
And when he knew for certain
Only drowning men could see him
He said "All men will be sailors then
Until the sea shall free them"
But he himself was broken
Long before the sky would open
Forsaken, almost human
He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone

And you want to travel with him
And you want to travel blind
And you think maybe you'll trust him
For he's touched your perfect body with his mind

Now Suzanne takes your hand
And she leads you to the river
She is wearing rags and feathers
From Salvation Army counters
And the sun pours down like honey
On our lady of the harbour
And she shows you where to look
Among the garbage and the flowers
There are heroes in the seaweed
There are children in the morning
They are leaning out for love
And they will lean that way forever
While Suzanne holds the mirror

And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that you can trust her
For she's touched your perfect body with her mind

~~ Kingdom of the Simple and Clean Heart ~~

When you walk away * you don't hear me say * please * oh baby, don't go * simple and clean is the way that you're making me feel tonight * it's hard to let it go

You're giving me too many things * lately you're all I need * you smiled at me and said -

"Don't get me wrong I love you * but does that mean I have to meet your father? * when we are older you'll understand * what I meant when I said * 'No, I don't think life is quite that simple'"

The daily things * that keep us all busy * all confusing me that's when you came to me and said -

"Wish I could prove I love you * but does that mean I have to walk on water? * when we are older you'll understand * it's enough when I say so * and maybe some things are that simple"

Hold me * whatever lies beyond this morning * is a little later on * regardless of warnings the future doesn't scare me at all * nothing's like before

Counting The Hours Backwards

When the day is done
Hope so much your race will be all run
Then you find you jumped the gun
Have to go back where you began
When the day is done

When the night is cold
Some get by but some get old
Just to show life's not made of gold
When the night is cold

When the bird has flown
Got no-one to call your own
Got no place to call your home

When the game's been fought
You speed the ball across the court
Lost much sooner than you would have thought
Now the game's been fought

When the party's through
Seems so very sad for you
Didn't do the things you meant to do
Now there's no time to start anew
Now the party's through

When the day is done
Down to earth then sinks the sun
Along with everything that was lost and won
When the day is done

The Toppest Of Top Hats & Canes

Finally. I like going to the movies, oh yes I do. I love the feeling of just picking my coat up and going off somewhere and seeing a story I know nothing about, or something that I just know I'm going to enjoy. I make a habbit of walking into theatres that are playing a film that I've never heard of. Is there any greater feeling than seeing brand new trailers on a Friday night?

Going to the movies is my cure-all.

Questions of Refugee

explain to me * just what it is you stand to loose * spend a minute in my shoes * don't you feel like you paid your dues * already?

I’ll show you * that all of it is so entwined * don’t loose your faith in humankind * just don’t forget my state of mind * is fragile

together * we could enjoy the taste of dignity * as long as you believe in me * I’ll show you my reality * I’ve seen a few

you ask me * why it is I come to you * when someone else is just as good * I asked them but they said the same * didn’t even ask my name

just another refugee

Four Dollars and Seventy-Five Cents a Day

He stumbles over to put what's left of the bottle on the nightstand before passing out on the floor beside the bed.

The Self-Identity Of A Person With Native Heritage ...

... falls somewhere between convenient sympathy and a bad joke.
